Collagen: Reduce your doggo's joint pain and repair cartilage

Collagen is essential for your aging dog's health

There are a number of things that are vital for both human and animal health. One of those key things that help to keep us both younger is collagen. It is an essential protein that provides structure to our bones, tendons, skin, and ligaments. But as we and our doggos age our bodies produce less collagen and it is of lower quality. This can lead to deterioration in our joint health and reduce healing times. Obviously, these are serious issues and we want to ensure that our bodies don't experience this type of decline.

What do we do about it?

Luckily, there are some studies that indicate that we can ingest collagen and receive the benefits that we are looking for. This is great news for both you and your doggo. It can be very common for big dogs and dachshunds to experience joint pain and slow down (see our video about why this company started here). But the major benefits of collagen include:

  • Repairing and maintaining cartilage
  • Preventing bone loss
  • Increasing muscle mass
  • Improving skin elasticity

This incredible protein can be used for so many different purposes. It can be used both in preventive and reactive treatment.

 Are there any risks?

As with anything, there may be some risk involved, however, the side effects associated with collagen are very few and very minimal. The risks that have been identified in people range from heartburn to bad tastes. Additionally, if your pet has allergies it can be a risk. Green Gruff uses eggshell to extract collagen and include it in our Ease dog chews, so, likely this won't cause any issues for your pet.

Bottom Line

Collagen is a great way to help repair tissue and cartilage, maintain your dog's joint health, and keep them young. Consider adding in some Ease chews to your dog's diet if they are at risk or are already experiencing some pain. Every dog deserves love, inside and out. That's Gruff love.
